Ministry of Education is the apex
policy making institution of the Government regarding administration and
development of post-primary education sector. Ministry of Education
formulates policies and programs for the development of post-primary to
higher education including Madrasah, Technical and Vocational education. It
also formulates laws, rules and regulations for the management and
administration of post-primary education sector and its institutions of the
country. There are several attached bodies for supervision and management of
formal education in post-primary and secondary schools, colleges, madrasahs,
technical schools and colleges, polytechnic institutes, engineering colleges
and universities. There are about 30864 post primary secondary
schools/colleges/madrasahs and 26 public and 56 private universities. |

Disaster Management Overview
Bangladesh being an
alluvial deltaic plain is divided into three zones, namely hills, terraces and
flood plain. The country has an approximate area of 147,570 sq.km bounded
between 20°34’ to 26°38’N latitude and 88°01’ to 92°41’E longitude and has 4,685
km. long unique geographical location forming a lower part of the basins of
three mighty rivers of Padma, the Brahmaputra and the Meghna. Bangladesh with
its fragile state of economy depends predominantly on agriculture that has
strong linkage with seasonal weather systems. Due to the geographical location,
the country frequently suffers from devastating natural hazards of which,
floods, cyclones with accompanying storm surges, tornadoes, river-bank erosion,
drought and earthquakes are the most disastrous to mention. Bangladesh being in
close proximity with the Himalayas, the country has a long history of seismic
tremors. Four great earthquakes of magnitude exceeding 8 during 1897, 1905,
1934, 1950 and another 10 earthquakes exceeding magnitude belt during the last
100 years. The colossal losses of lives and properties caused by natural
disasters with repeated frequency in short intervals make Bangladesh as one of
the most disaster prone countries in the world.

Ministry of Cultural

In line with Bangladesh's Outline of Perspective Plan, the Ministry of Cultural

The role of Fisheries and Livestock sectors
in the development of agro-based economy of Bangladesh is very important and
promising. They contribute around 8% to national income, which also is 32% of
the total agricultural income. About 90% of animal protein in our diet comes
from fish and livestock.
The main functions of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock are to preserve
fisheries resources, fulfill the requirement of animal protein through proper
management and planned development, increase socio-economic conditions of
fishermen, create employment opportunities for rural unemployed and landless
people, expand foreign exchange earnings by exporting fish and fishery products
and to innovate new technologies through research for fisheries development and
preservation.

Ministry of Environment & Forests
The Ministry of
Environment & Forests is the nodal agency in the administrative structure of the
Central Government, for the planning, promotion, co-ordination and overseeing
the implementation of environmental and forestry programmes. MoEF oversees all
environmental matters in the country and is a permanent member of the Executive
Committee of the National Economic Council.
The Ministry is also
plays a pivotal role as participant of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The principal activities undertaken by Ministry of Environment & Forests consist
of conservation & survey of flora, fauna, forests and wildlife, prevention &
control of pollution, forestation & regeneration of degraded areas and
protection of environment, in the frame work of legislations.
The main tools utilized for this include surveys, impact
assessment, control of pollution, regeneration programmes, support to
organizations, research to solve solutions and training to augment the requisite
manpower, collection and dissemination of environmental information and creation
of environmental awareness among all sectors of the country's population.

Ministry of Defence - Peoples Republic
of Bangladesh
This ministry of Defence (MOD) is located
at the Gonobhaban Complex, Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. It is under the control
of the Honorable Prime Minister. This ministry deals with the budget, statutory
and regulatory matters and to certain extent establishment and administration
subjects of the armed services. Moreover other organizations including the
inter-services departments are under the regulatory control of this ministry.
During the care-taker govt. MOD works under the control of the Honorable
President of the republic.
This ministry has two wings : The general wing and the works & development wing.
Each wing is headed by a Joint Secretary.
As per organogram total manpower of this ministry is 144 out of which 33 are
class-1 Cadre and non Cadre officers. Most of the officers belong to BCS
Administration cadre having sound academic background. The posts of Joint
secretary (W&D), Engineering Advisor and Deputy Secretary (Law) are reserved for
officers of the Armed Forces. The location of the MOD has an absorbing natural
beauty. The greenery, fragments of blue sky at the wide windows create a
marvelous work arena the Ministry of Defense.
